Green Joe's is proud to support the Amani Children's Foundation,
a non-profit organization that works to build partnerships
between the children of Africa and American communities. Amani's
current focus is collaborating with New Life Homes in Kenya to provide
housing and care for infants orphaned by AIDS.
There
are 15 million orphans left behind from the strain of HIV/AIDS on
the African people; this foundation is working hard to see that as many
of these
infants as possible are raised in loving homes with best practice
methods. For special needs toddlers that have not been adopted, Amani
is helping to open an expansion to the New Life Home in Kisumu, one of
the areas hardest-hit by the AIDS pandemic.
The founders of Amani have been working in Kenya on and off for over 30 years and have traveled there frequently to offer medical and educational assistance since the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. They have even adopted three orphans, one with the middle name Amani, which means "peace." Supporters of Amani include Maya Angelou, physicians, businesses, universities, churches, and local organizations like Girl's Clubs. For more information, we invite you to visit the foundation's Web site.
